What is the Labelwala label designer?
The Labelwala label designer is a free, browser-based tool for designing clothing labels the way a label factory makes them. You choose a fold, a size in millimetres and a material, start from a ready-made design or a blank label, add your logo, text, shapes and wash-care symbols, and the tool checks the result against what a loom or a satin printer can actually reproduce. When you are happy, one click sends the label and a spec sheet to our studio in Ahmedabad for a quote. It is made by Labelwala, a clothing-label manufacturer with 25 years of production, for brands that want a label that comes back from the factory looking like the design.

Every label a garment needs.
The designer is built around the labels we actually weave and print in Ahmedabad. Each family opens with designs modelled on real orders, so you start from something that already works on a loom.
Woven brand labels
Damask and taffeta neck labels with your wordmark, monogram or emblem. The designer keeps type at a size threads can hold.
Printed satin labels
Soft satin with fine print for boutiques and D2C brands: contact details, Instagram handles, taglines and small type.
Wash-care labels
GINETEX symbols, fibre composition, care wording and the Indian declarations, generated as editable text on the label.
Size, name and number labels
Size tabs, age ranges, waist and length, and name and number labels for uniforms and teams.
School and uniform labels
Crests, shield tabs, house tabs and class and roll labels, with English, Hindi and Gujarati fonts.
Woven patches and badges
Square, round and free-shape patches with frames, chevrons and emblems, cut to the contour of your artwork.
From blank to quote in four steps.
A first-run tour walks you through it the first time you open the designer. Most first labels take under twenty minutes.
Start designingPick a design and a fold
Choose from 300+ ready-made designs, then the fold your garment needs. The canvas becomes the real flat piece, with fold-under areas hatched.
Set the size and material
Presets or exact millimetres, within the limits of the fold. Switch between woven damask, taffeta, printed satin, cotton and canvas and watch the texture change.
Add your logo, text and shapes
Upload your logo and it drops into the design’s emblem spot. Double-click any text to edit it in place, drag to move, pull a corner to resize.
Check, then send for a quote
The print check flags anything a loom cannot weave. Quick Quote sends the label at print resolution with a spec sheet; we reply on WhatsApp within 2 hours.
The fold decides the real size.
A 40 × 20 mm end-fold label is cut 56 × 20 mm, because 8 mm turns under at each end. The designer draws that flat piece, hatches the turn-unders, and limits the size to what each fold allows. These are the folds it offers and where each is used.
| Fold | Flat piece the designer draws | Typical use | Size range |
|---|---|---|---|
| No fold (straight cut) | The finished size, cut all round | Patches, badges, labels stitched on four sides | 10–185 × 8–130 mm |
| End fold, left and right | 8 mm turned under at each end | The standard neck label | 18–126 × 8–97 mm |
| End fold, top and bottom | 8 mm turned under at top and bottom | Tall labels, side seams | 10–75 × 18–131 mm |
| Centre fold | Two faces folded in half, ends turned under | Hem tags, size tabs, brand front with care on the back | 8–100 × 8–82 mm |
| Manhattan fold | One face, top turned under | Loop-in-seam labels | 11–45 × 17–50 mm |
| Book cover fold | Two faces that open like a cover | Care booklets, two-language labels | 11–45 × 16–50 mm |
| Hanger loop (ordinary, reverse, even) | A trapezoid face with seam tabs | Coat and jacket hanging loops | 30–70 × 10–25 mm |
| Laser-cut round | A circle | Badges, emblems | 8–85 mm diameter |
| Laser-cut free shape | The contour of the artwork, 1–10 mm out | Kids' labels, mascots, badges | 8–140 × 8–85 mm |
The rules a loom follows, built into the tool.
Material is not a look; it is a set of limits. When you change material, the designer changes the thresholds its print check uses. These are the numbers it enforces.
| Material | Minimum letter size | Also checked | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Woven damask | 2.8 mm (about 2.0 mm cap height) | Light weights, more than 5 colours | Fine logos, dense weave, soft hand |
| Woven taffeta | 2.8 mm | Fine serifs and scripts are flagged | Economy woven, bold simple marks |
| Printed satin | 2.1 mm | Logo resolution against printed size | Small type, contact details, care labels |
| Cotton tape | 2.1 mm | Contrast against the background | Natural look, tone-on-tone print |
| Canvas | 2.1 mm | Contrast against the background | Patches, workwear |
Why 2.8 mm on woven
That is the size at which the holes in 8, 6, 0 and R stay open after the first washes. Below it an 8 reads as a 6.
Why two or three colours
Each colour is a separate thread on the loom. The check warns above five; simplifying the palette moves the price more than the fold ever will.
Safe margins
Nothing within about 2 mm of a stitched edge or 3 mm of a fold. The hatched areas on the canvas make this visible instead of a rule to remember.
A label maker that knows what a loom can do.
- True millimetre scale. What you draw at 40 × 20 mm is what we weave at 40 × 20 mm, and the finished and cut sizes are always shown.
- Real folds, not a rectangle. Eleven finishes, each drawn as the flat piece with its seam and fold-under areas, so nothing lands where it will be stitched.
- A print check as you go. Text too small for the thread, fine serifs on taffeta, low-resolution logos, too many colours: caught with a one-tap fix.
- Wash-care labels done properly. Symbols, composition that must total 100 percent, and the Legal Metrology declarations with a compliance checklist.
- Hindi and Gujarati, too. Devanagari and Gujarati font families next to the English ones, for bilingual and ethnic-wear labels.
- Straight to a quote. One click attaches your label at print resolution and a spec sheet to our Quick Quote form. Minimum order 1,000 pieces per design.
Generic label makers vs. a manufacturer's designer.
General design apps and online "label makers" are fine for a sticker. A clothing label is woven or printed on cloth, folded and sewn, which is where they fall short.
| Capability | Generic design app or label maker | Labelwala label designer |
|---|---|---|
| Canvas | Pixels or a generic rectangle | Real millimetres, the flat piece of the fold |
| Folds | None; you guess the turn-under | 11 folds with fold-under areas hatched, cut size shown |
| Material | A colour fill | Damask, taffeta, satin, cotton, canvas, with texture and rules |
| Minimum text size | No limit; 1 mm type is allowed | Checked against the material: 2.8 mm woven, 2.1 mm printed |
| Wash-care labels | Paste symbols in by hand | GINETEX symbols, composition, wording and Indian declarations |
| Logo handling | Places the file | Palettes from your logo; resolution checked against print size |
| Indian scripts | Depends on the app | Hindi and Gujarati font families built in |
| Output | PNG or PDF | PNG at print resolution plus a spec sheet the loom is set from |
| Getting it made | Find a factory, explain the design | Quick Quote with the files attached; reply in 2 hours |
| Price | Free tier or subscription | Free, no signup |
A care label generator that knows the rules.
The Care tab writes a complete wash-care label for you. Pick one symbol from each of the five GINETEX groups (washing, bleaching, drying, ironing, professional care), enter the fibre composition, and the care wording is generated and laid out under the symbol row. The symbols are drawn to ISO 3758, and the check keeps them at least 5 mm on woven and 4 mm on printed so the bars and dots survive.
For garments sold in India, switch on the declarations block and it adds what the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules ask for: manufacturer or marketer name and address, country of origin, size as an indicator and in centimetres, MRP inclusive of taxes, consumer-care email and phone, and for pre-packaged goods the net quantity and month of manufacture. A checklist shows what is filled in. It is formatting help, not legal advice; check the current rules before a production run.

Common questions.
What to know before you send a design for a quote. For a longer walkthrough, read how to design a clothing label online.
Is the label designer really free?
Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and nothing to pay. Design as many labels as you like, download the spec sheet, and send a design to us for a quote only when you are ready. The minimum order is 1,000 pieces per design.
What kind of labels can I design with it?
Woven brand labels, printed satin labels, wash-care labels with symbols, size labels, name and number labels for uniforms, school and team labels, hem loops and woven patches. There are more than 300 ready-made designs to start from, in eight families, all modelled on labels we have made.
Which folds and materials does it support?
All eleven finishes we make: no fold, end fold (left and right, or top and bottom), centre fold, Manhattan fold, book cover fold, three hanger loops, laser-cut round and laser-cut free shape. Materials are woven damask, woven taffeta, printed satin, cotton tape and canvas, and the canvas texture changes with your choice.
Why does the canvas show hatched areas around my design?
The canvas is the real flat piece that comes off the loom, not just the visible face. Hatched areas are the parts that fold under or go into the seam, so you can see exactly where your artwork must stay. The finished size and the cut size are both shown under the label.
How small can the text be on a woven label?
The designer warns below about 2.8 mm on woven damask and taffeta and below about 2.1 mm on printed satin. Those are the sizes at which the counters inside letters like 8, 6, 0 and R still stay open after washing. Below them a woven 8 reads as a 6.
Can I make a wash-care label with symbols?
Yes. The Care tab has the five GINETEX symbol groups, fibre composition that must total 100 percent, the care wording written for you, and the declarations Indian Legal Metrology rules ask for. Every line it writes is normal text on the label, so you can move it, restyle it or reword it.
Can I use my own logo and fonts?
Yes. Upload up to two images as PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG and the designer pulls colour palettes out of your logo. Fonts include English, Hindi and Gujarati families, and the designer warns you when a font or size is too fine to weave.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It is built for desktop first, where you have the space to work, but it runs in a phone browser with the canvas on top and the tools along the bottom. Nothing is installed; the design is saved in your browser as you go.
What happens when I press Quick Quote?
The same form as our Quick Quote page opens. Your label at print resolution and a one-page spec sheet with the fold, sizes, material, colours and fonts are attached automatically and sent to our studio. We reply on WhatsApp with a per-piece price within 2 hours, Monday to Saturday.
Will my label be produced exactly as I designed it?
Very close. The designer checks your design for production as you go: text too small for the loom, artwork on a fold line, a low-resolution logo, too many thread colours. Before any run we confirm thread colours and placement on the quote and share a sample preview for your approval.
